Family Art Night
Chakra Consciousness Through Art: Muladhara (Root Chakra)
(Please note: This family art night is the first in a series of family art nights that will examine the chakra system. Also, this is intuitive art, which means we will guide you to pay attention to the emotions and sensations taking place inside your body, instead of purely listening to your intellectual (thinking) mind. This will help you draw and paint what "feels" right for you. In other words, we will not show you a drawing and teach you step by step how to re-create it as we've done in past art nights.)

Chakras are “wheels” or points in the human body described in yogic philosophy as centers of vital energy aligned with the spinal column. Each of the seven main chakras has its own distinct character relating to a unique aspect of our being, and correlate to levels of consciousness, body functions, colors, elements, sounds and much more. The blockage or energetic dysfunction in the chakras is believed to give rise to physiological, psychological, emotional and spiritual imbalances.
This paint night, we will be focusing on our Root Chakra! Our root chakra governs the functioning of the lower part of the body - the bladder, kidneys, lower spine, legs and back. Psychologically, it governs confidence and survival instincts - grounding, safety, security, stability and connection to the world.
All of the seven chakras are important and interconnected with each other. Usually, balancing one chakra will create change in another chakra. Balancing the Root Chakra before proceeding to others is important, otherwise, we will lack the stability and rootedness necessary for true transformation and personal growth. We inhibit growth and change unless we feel safe and secure.
Free your creative self with intuitive painting! Explore and experiment - let go of whatever gets in the way of your own creative expression - there is no need for perfection, comparison, or external approval here!
Over the course of this evening, we will embrace healing tools such as sound, color, and guided visualization meditation. You will also be offered hot tea for our root and invited to join in a chant.
