Art & Movement for Seniors

Please join us every Friday, 10am-12pm, as instructor Miho Wakabayashi kindly guides you with playful art exercises and gentle physical movements to nurture both your mind and body. Miho experienced the benefits of these exercises first-hand after being struck my a car and suffering debilitating injuries. After the accident, she suffered from severe vertigo, was bed ridden, and told by doctors it would take at least six months before she would recover from her injuries and walk again. With a positive mind and attitude, Miho worked on daily exercises that integrated art into her therapy.  She was able to heal herself within 3 months rather than the 6 months predicted by her doctors.

Some of the exercises and activities you will learn in this class are:

  • Drawings of family members

  • Landscape paintings

  • Collages

  • Abstract and conceptual drawings

  • Book-making

  • Sculpting with clay

  • Basket-making

  • Lymph massage

  • Gentle stretches and aerobic movement

In addition, we will hold fun social events, such as lectures from guest speakers in the field of mind-body medicine and group lunches, where you can pack your lunch from home or have it catered.

It is our hope that through your exploration and expression of color and drawings, you will learn to read and uncover hidden emotions and feelings, particularly the deep and often painful ones, which are somewhere in your unconscious. By bringing them to conscious awareness, you will begin to heal them and release obstacles and challenges taking place on a physical level. This will bring you closer to your inner truth, where you will learn to live your life with confidence and joy.
