                          Frequent Asked Questions

What is Mixed-media class? Is it computer-based or free-hand?

Mixed-media means art made by a variety of art media, either by hands or by computer. We teach free-hand still-life drawing and painting, portraiture, postures (anatomy), perspectives (architecture), sports, cartooning, fashion design, landscape, school projects, transportation (automobils, airplanes design) and different schools of art (realsim, Renaissance, impressionism, surrealism, abstraction, futurism and more)! (Digital art programs will be available soon.)
In mixed-media art class, students get to use more than 15 types of high-end art supplies and 60 watercolors based on projects and students' interest and skill levels - including charcoals, pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, oil paints, patel pencils, acrylic paints, acrylic media, watercolor, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, gel crayons, gouache paints, brush painting, professional markers, ink pens, print-making and more!

Do teachers draw or paint for students? I can't believe young kids can draw and paint like those works on your website!

We constantly got questions from jaw-dropping customers when they see our students' portfolio: "Did a 5-year-old kid draw this?" Or questions such as "Did teachers paint this for the student?", or "Did students trace original pictures?"

No! We do not draw or paint for students, nor do students trace original pictures. Yes. Most students can draw and paint like those works we posted on students' gallery under our instruction, including students as young as age 5 or 6. Based on our years of experiences, we carefully choose teaching subjects based on students' interest and comfort level; we break our materials into very detailed step-by-step instruction based on ways easier for students to learn and memorize.

What are our teaching approaches?

Our instructors show detailed step-by-step drawing and painting instruction based on students' age and comfort level. We teach students how to look at light and shadow, color theory, composition (how to arrange elements on a drawing and painting), and how draw things from simple shape. Besides, each student has one computer to review art instruction! That reduces waiting time when students need help and enhances learning efficiency tremendously! We diverisfy monthly themes to ensure that students get to learn a variety of techniques and subjects.

What is your teaching philosophy?

We teach solid drawing and painting skills; at the same time, we inspire students how to think creatively. It is a misconception that solid drawing and painting skills will limit students' creativity. On the contrary, the more techniques that students learn, the more tools they have to express their creativity! It's just like learning creative writing; the more writing styles that writers learn, the more methods they can apply to their writing!

Students will be learning solid drawing and painting skills with diverse subjects and contemporary concepts; which broadens students’ imagination and diversifies the way students express their creativity! Besides, we

teach students how to think out of box so that they can incoporate their creativity into solid drawing and painting skills!

Is this a intense or relaxing learning environment?

Our students constantly win awards, but students learn in an encouraging and competition-free environment. We encourage students to follow their own pace.
